What is the ranking confidence factor?
The confidence factor can quickly tell you how accurate we believe a given ranking to be. The higher the confidence factor, the more accurate we believe the ranking to be.
How is it calculated?
Many factors are taken in to account. These include:
- How many competitive matches have been recorded in the past 6 months. The more matches, the more confidence we have.
- What types of competitive matches have been recorded? We put the most value on tournaments, followed by leagues, followed by regular challenge matches. If you really want to boost your confidence ranking, try to play in tournaments or leagues.
- Do you play a wide range of opponents? If so, we believe your ranking is more likely to be accurate, versus someone who only plays the same small group of people on a regular basis. Playing the same group of people usually results in little bubbles in the ranking, where you can actually move up or down significantly and therefore create a fairly distorted ranking.
The biggest thing that can decrease your confidence factor is not playing and/or not playing in a league or tournament. When you don’t play for extended periods, the rate at which we start to decrease your confidence factor accelerates. Similarly, if you don’t play in a league or tournament for an extended period, then we actually cap the maximum amount that your confidence factor can rise to.
Finally, we do give you a grace period of 7 days before we start docking confidence scores. That means after you record a match, your confidence factor will not decrease until another week has past. We feel this is fair, as most people play at least once a week and we really are trying to encourage you to make the result count. The more data in the system, the more accurate and fair the system is for everyone.
